Campaign Module

     Wednesday 2nd March

Today is the day of the auditions. Throughout the day people were communicating over the Facebook page the other school had created. I had been made an administrator for it which meant it could post things onto it. I was posting relevant information throughout the day about auditions and pictures etc..

I also created a letter to go out to the acts to give back asap to get parents permission for them to perform in the show. I then thought that it would be a good idea to run a rehearsal with the acts the day after auditions. So i could with them properly so I created a bullet point list of what i should tell the acts and guide them through.

I also helped to arrange the main hall for the auditions. I put a row of chairs for my diploma groups so we can judge and i made a small sign with an arrow pointing to where the auditions are being held, just to remind people. After the auditions i arranged that people get 2 people go to each act to tell them what went well, what didn't and whether they got through.

A strength of today was using my initiative to do extra bits for the auditions that weren't thought of before
A weakness was that not many people turned up. Therefore, a target for improvement is to do the festival on a wider range and open auditions to the public.
A skill I've learnt today is how to carry out my job roles whilst doing a few extra jobs.

Today i plan to think of a creative Gurilla advertisement to let people know about auditions next week.

As Kia and I worked so well together last week, we decided to work together this week so we can come up with a Gurilla idea. I looked at the feasibility table i had made a few weeks back and saw that a Gurilla campaign could possibly be free and easy, so Kia and I started thinking on what we could do. We then came up with the idea of borrowing a megaphone and going round just shouting about it, it would get people's attention and it wouldn't take too much planning. We would be able to do it by lunchtime.
I went over to the P.E office to ask to borrow their megaphones and Kia and I went round to announce about auditions saying 'AUDITIONS, MAIN HALL NEXT WEEK' 'STRAIGHT AFTER SCHOOL' 'DO SOMETHING FUNNY FOR MONEY' and words to that effect.

I also made a last minute letter to parents and poster. The letter needed to be well written, informative, polite and formal. The poster was just a really basic quick one i made just so people can read it quick and get the information they need.  I didn't need to do planning for the poster as it was a spontaneous decision.

A strength of mine today was working as a team with Kia to come up with an effective Gurilla campaign.
A weakness was leaving the letter to parents a touch too late, i could've sent it out two weeks ago id i had made it earlier
A target for improvement is to make a schedule of priorities.
A skill I've learnt today is how to create a formal letter to parents with all appropriate information, images whilst also making sure it was laid out correctly, my functional ICT skills helped here.
Next week is the auditions, i hope to run a rehearsal after the auditions and help to run the Facebook group.

     Wednesday 9th February

Today i plan to investigate more into the art competition and continue with the assemblies.

Today i firstly printed out some plans for the mini, it included a sketch of the top of a mini and a front view. I printed out three so that i can have a first idea, and 2nd and then i final design.
There was a boy in the younger year who was interested in incorporating our LOL design so Kia, him and I worked on creating these designs together. We met at lunchtime to draw up a few plans.

In the assembly we had the power point and video which definitely enhanced the presentation and made it more interesting and memorable. People really enjoyed the comedy video i had created and they were all laughing at it which I think made us immediately relatable to them and they felt comfortable listening to us.

A strength of mine today was creating imaginative designs that all of us had an input in.
A weakness of mine today was not helping other people, i feel as if i could get involved with other peoples roles so i can get a wider understanding of our campaign.
A target for improvement is to find more opportunities like the mini contest.
A skill I've learnt today is how to put 3 peoples ideas into one design and being able to work as part of a team, each inputting fairly.
Next week i plan to think of a Gurilla campaign to further promote the festival

This week I plan to carry out the assemblies with Sian

Starting Monday Sian and I started to have our slot in the assemblies to talk to the different houses about the comedy festival, however as previously stated we didn't have multimedia as it wasn't able to be booked because of lack of time on the schedule. This meant Sian and I had to try to keep the attention of the audience without any visual aids. In ordr to do this I made sure i used my hands a lot to talk i also made sure i spoke loud and clear. The list of what we needed to say was a lot shorter as we didn't want it to dragon too long because without any visual aids the students would get bored easy. Especially the younger ones.

As well as doing the assemblies Sian and I had to meet regularly at break so we could practice with out teacher, so we would stand at the back on a classroom and present to our teacher and he would give us feedback on what he though, we would repeat this until it was perfect. This we did every break time before the assemblies.

Today, i had also noticed that there is an art competition going on in the school, you can design your own mini and it will be painted onto a white mini and parked at the school. I discussed this with Kia and we decided we should use this opportunity to our advantage. We began looking into the competition and seeing if there were any rules and regulations that applied.

A strength of mine today was having good presentation skills i had gained from various PD rounds.
A target for improvement is to make the assembly even better next week.
A skill I've learnt today is how to adapt myself to fit in with other plans
Next week i plan to research more into the art competition.

Campaign Module

     Wednesday 26th January 2011

Today i plan to email various professional acts.

in my opinion, if there are some professional acts at the comedy festival then it will be a big selling point for the audience as they would pay to see someone that would really make them laugh rather then school children who might make them laugh. However, there is no point emailing famous comedians that have become celebrities because they will be to bus and would probably charge us for their appearance. Instead i have researched various small agencies with professional comedians. I tried to look for a variety of acts instead of all stand up otherwise it will get boring. I tried to look for parody dances, songs, impressions etc but it seems that there isn't alot of variety out there. The only people i could contact were two stand up acts, and impressionist and a parody singer.

A strength of mine today was my ability to look at the broader view of celebrities not being the best idea.
A weakness of mine was not being able to find a bigger variety. However i feel as if this wasn't my fault.
A skill i've learnt is how to form a professional letter.
A target for improvement is to use other sources of research instead of just the internet. For example, i could have found an address for an agency and gone to the offices so i could have a proper talk with them to see who was available.

Today i plan to create a PD session script and go into each pd group to talk to the tutor about the show and to give them a poster to encourage them to get involved.

I created a small bullet pointed list of what needed to be included when talking to the PD group. I found this easy because I'm a confident public speaker and this would give me relevant help for the further upcoming assemblies.

A strength of mine today was my ability to publicly speak to the tutor groups making the festival seem fun and exciting.
A weakness of mine was not being able to do all of the PD groups. We were all split into pairs and went round together. However, even then we couldn't all get round. This means that hopefully we can go every other week so that the students don't forget.
My target for improvement is to shorten the PD talk so that i can get more done in the time.
A skill I've learnt today is how to turn lots of dates into an interesting talk that the students will listen to and take in the dates.
Next week i plan to email acts to try and get professionals to perform.

Today i plan to speak to the head of houses so that i can make sure the assemblies are all planned.

Sian and I arranged a meeting with the deputy head, we explained what we wanted to do in the assemblies and whether it's be okay. He confirmed the assemblies and said that we could do assemblies starting on monday for a week but then the next week is fully booked so we would have to wait until after half term to do the rest of the assemblies. Also, unfortunately we're not allowed any multimedia next week which means Sian will have to edit the script to be without a powerpoint or anything. This was a downfall as it meant we wont get the students attention as much because it'll be boring with people just talking at them and the dates wont stick in their mind.

Sian and i then emailed all the house leaders reminding them that we'll be in their assembly.

A strength of mine today was being confident enough to talk to the deputy head.
A weakness of mine was not getting more done, i could have made more posters of gone round telling people about the festival etc..
A target for improvement is to organise things earlier to make sure i get exactly the schedule i hoped for.
A skill i've learnt today is to find ways to overcome problems that I'm faced with. Such as multimedia not allowed to be used for a week. it meant the script had to be edited and shortened so that the students don't get bored.

Campaign Module

     Wednesday 15th December 2010

Today i plan to put up my posters around the school in easy viewable areas. I also plan to create a and powerpoint presentation for assemblies to promote the LOL Comedy week, The Comedy Show and their Auditions.

Everyone had made posters by this week so we got them all printed and Jasmine told us where to put the posters. We split into two's and went around the school sticking them into teachers rooms and outside on walls etc.. We had to make sure we were polite when we were in the classroom, we asked nicely whether we could put them up and tried not to disturb the class.

I planned and created a powerpoint presentation for the assembly and i had to make sure i included all the relevant information in brief notes whilst Sian created a script for it so that there was more talking rather than the audience just having to constantly read the slides. i came up with the idea of having a funny video playing as the students are walking in, it will immediately catch their attention and get them interested. Also, i will need ensure that their is no inappropriate videos with swear words or anything else. It needs to be suitable for students as young as 11 years old.  I will get the videos off of youtube and collate them to have a montage.

One of my strengths today was being able to work independently again to create a powerpoint that is perfect for the target audience of the campaign.
One of my weaknesses was spending too much time on the video. The school has blocked the youtube website so it meant i had to go on my teachers laptop to download each video them put them on a memory stick to put them on my computer. This took alot of time.
A target for improvement is to sort out priorities so that i get as much done a school so that the things i can't do at school or that take time i can do at home. Such as the videos.
A skill i've learnt today is how to look at every aspect of this particular campaign (assemblies) to make sure it's appropriate for every aspect - age, gender, religion etc -
Next week I plan to discuss the assemblies with various head of houses to make sure there can be a schedule for us to follow.

     Wednesday 8th December 2010

Today I plan to email sticker companies and compare prices to see if the secret campaign is possible. I will also email Galaxy Radio.

Today i emailed two of the cheapest and most local sticker companies. It turns out that I did in fact find a cheap company - Digital Print partnership would give us 200 stickers of our logo for £27.67.  but keeping in mind that there are over 1500 students and teachers in the school it wouldn't be enough. Wanting this amount of stickers would increase the cost greatly if everyone wanted a sticker which we would have hoped. However, i did order a sample pack of stickers so that i can see the quality of them. This campaign wouldn't work out, this was a Gurilla ( original and extraordinary campaign such as a flash mob, custard pie fight etc) campaign i came up with, because this didn't work out i will stick to social networking sites, posters etc...

I also got a reply from Galaxy Radio to advertise a 10 second advert about the festival. to play the advert from the 17/01/2011 - 03/04/11 would be £4,700.50. This was a ridiculous price as we do not have that sort of budget and it would defeat the money of raising money for charity.

I presented this to the rest of the group. i explained what i had researched and how i would go about creating my campaign which has now changed. The group were very supportive and offered feedback, agreeing that the secret campaign would be very successful but it's too costly and difficult to carry out on a limited budget.

A strength of mine today was being independent and emailing various companies to gather research and ordering a sample pack.
A weakness of mine was not really having a main backup campaign, once my secret campaign didn't work out i only had assemblies, posters and PD sessions left
A target for improvement is to always have a backup plan incase something doesn't work out. This is a valuable lesson that i will keep in mind in the future
A skill i've learnt today is how to use my initiative to go out of my way to get independent research and to be confident enough to enquire about stickers and radio adverts.
Next week i plan to create posters to promote the festival.

     Wednesday 1st December 2010

Today I plan to create a final logo for the festival.

Another school designed a simple first idea for the logo and I then expanded that. The various idea created by our diploma group are on the next sheet. We all designed a logo and then rated eachothers. In the end, elements were taken from each design to create the final one. This logo will be included in every promotional item created along with the Comic Relief logo:

i also came up with a secret campaign and researched into this. It would include getting stickers of our logo and sticking them everywhere, on peoples backs, in shopping centres etc.. This would cause a big hype that would attract audiences. it would then be revealed through a social networking page what the stickers are about.

A strength of mine today was being able to compare ideas of the logo and coming up with a possible successful campaign amongst the others.
A weakness of mine was not starting any campaigns already.
A target for improvement is to expand the secret campaign and research into it.
A skill i've learnt is how to work as a team to achieve the common goal.
Next week I plan to carry out my campaigns and start to email sticker companies and radio stations. I will also start planning posters.

Campaign Module

     Wednesday 24th November 2010

Today I plan to create a feasibility table to see which type of campaign would be the best option to carry out.

Today is the first day of the Campaign module. We will be creating a campaign for an upcoming festival we will do in the festival module.

I first started doing LO1, where I research into existing campaigns and comment on their main message, strategy, target audience and success rate. The campaigns I chose are as follows:

  • NSPCC, campaign to Protect all Children
  • Make a Wish, Cadbury Wishes campaign
  • World Health Organisation, World Mental Health campaign
  • Peta, Kentucky Fried Cruelty campaign
  • Body By Milk, Got Milk? campaign
  • Help For Heroes, Skydive in aid of H4H campaign
  • Comic Relief, Red Nose Day campaign
I then created my feasibility table where i explored the price, effectiveness and difficulty of each campaign idea. I needed to figure out which campaign would be most appropriate for us to do. it is shown on my feasibility table which campaigns i will explore further.

A strength of mine today was being able to thin of many different, interesting and original ideas for campaigns and finding smaller existing campaigns rather than the main ones everyone knows about. Not many people would be aware of World Mental Health Day so this gives me a good comparison of success with the other campaigns.
A weakness of mine today was not finishing my LO1, however. I have started it and it wont take much time to finish it.
A target for improvement is to work quicker on tasks.
A skill i've learnt is how to evaluate different aspects of ideas (cost, effectiveness, difficulty)
Next week I plan to plan and create a logo for the event.
